• Choosing a programme: close the door and press the Power button, then press the Program button to select the programme you want; its indicator lights. Press Start/Pause and the dishwasher starts its cycle. The screen shows the remaining time, delay time and any error code.
• Auto: an auto sensing wash for lightly, normally or heavily soiled crockery, with or without dried-on food (around 150 minutes).
• Hygiene 75°: sanitises dishes and glassware with a highest water temperature of 75°C, suited to baby items and chopping boards (around 190 minutes).
• ECO: the standard programme for normally soiled loads such as pots, plates, glasses and lightly soiled pans, and the test cycle for the ratings (172 minutes).
• Glass: for lightly soiled crockery and glass (around 120 minutes).

• Rinse aid setting: a warning indicator lights when the rinse aid needs a refill. The release can be set from d1 to d6 with a factory setting of d3: after switching on, hold the Self Cleaning button for more than 5 seconds, then press Delay and use the Self Cleaning button to step through the levels. The higher the number, the more rinse aid is used.
• Detergent: add detergent to the larger cavity for the main wash and, for very dirty items, a small amount onto the door, which activates in the pre-wash.
• Adding a forgotten dish: press Start/Pause to pause, wait 5 seconds, open the door, add the dish and close the door. Press Start/Pause after 10 seconds and the dishwasher continues. This works any time before the detergent dispenser opens.
• Changing a programme: possible only shortly after the start. Press Start/Pause to pause, hold any programme button for more than 3 seconds to cancel the programme, choose the new programme and press Start/Pause. Refill the detergent dispenser if needed.
• Unloading and standby: wait about 15 minutes after the programme ends before taking out glass and cutlery, and empty the lower basket first. In standby the appliance switches off automatically after 30 minutes without operation.
• Error codes: E1 (longer inlet time, such as a closed tap or low water pressure), E3 (not reaching the required temperature), E4 (overflow), E8 (distributary valve fault) and Ed (communication fault).

• Installation type: Freestanding, or fitted between cabinets (845 mm high); remove the top to fit under a worktop. Position the dishwasher near the existing inlet and drain hoses and power cord, with the back against the wall and the sides along adjacent cabinets or walls.
• Qualified installation: The pipework and electrical equipment should be installed by professionals, with the power disconnected before installing.
• Fitting between cabinets: At 845 mm high the machine is designed to fit between existing cabinets of the same height, with the feet adjusted to reach the correct height. The laminated top is heatproof, scratchproof and stainproof.
• Fitting under a worktop: Remove the dishwasher's top by unscrewing the screws under its rear edge, then refit those screws under the rear edge after the top is removed. The height is then reduced to 815 mm so the dishwasher fits under the work top.
• Cut-out: Allow 450 mm width for a 45cm dishwasher and 820 mm height under a worktop, with less than 5 mm between the top of the dishwasher and the cabinet, and leave an entrance for the electrical, drain and water supply lines.
• Corner installation: If installed at the corner of a cabinet, leave at least 50 mm of space so the door can open. Depending on where the outlet is, you may need to cut a hole in the opposite cabinet side.
• Door depth: The depth is 600 mm with the door closed and 1150 mm with the door opened 90°, so allow clear floor space in front.
• Levelling: Level using the adjustable feet; the machine must not be inclined by more than 2 degrees.
• Water connection: Connect the 180 cm hose to a threaded 3/4 inch connector on a cold water supply and fasten it tightly. Let the water run clear first if the pipes are new or unused, and use the new hose set; old hose sets must not be reused.
• Safety supply hose: The double-walled hose blocks the flow of water if the supply hose breaks. Pull it out from the storage compartment at the rear, tighten it to the tap and turn the water fully on before starting.
• Water pressure: The permitted water pressure is 0.04 to 1.0 MPa (0.4 to 10 bar).
• Drain hose: Fix the 150 cm drain hose securely, with the hose hook closed onto the counter, and run it into a drain pipe at least 4 cm in diameter or into the sink without bending or crimping, with the drain height under 1000 mm. The free end must not be immersed in water, and an extension must be a similar hose no longer than 4 metres.
• Electrical: 150 cm power cord to a 10A earthed GPO on a separate circuit serving only this appliance, with a 10A, 13A or 16A time delay fuse or circuit breaker; no extension cords or adaptors.
• Earthing: The appliance must be properly earthed. Never cut or remove the earthing connection, and have a socket that does not suit the plug replaced by a qualified electrician.
• Supply cord: Do not excessively bend or flatten the power cord during installation; a damaged cord must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or a similarly qualified person.

The ADW4509 gives slimline kitchens features normally found on 60cm machines: nine programmes, Zone Wash, auto door opening and a Self Cleaning cycle, all in a 450 mm wide body. The black control panel suits both finishes, so you can match the front to dark or stainless cabinetry.

Auto door opening releases steam at the end of the wash and helps the load finish drying. Zone Wash lets you run only the upper or lower basket when the load is small, and the slide-out cutlery tray frees up room in the lower basket for larger plates and pots.

The 3.5 star WELS rating is for 11.2 litres per wash, and the 189 kWh per year energy figure comes from the Government Energy Rating Calculator. Warranty is 2 years, extended to 5 years with product registration.
