Programmes / Functions

Oven functions (per the Whirlpool use and care guide):

  • Defrost: the rear fan circulates room temperature air around the food, ideal for delicate foods such as ice cream cakes, cream or custard desserts and fruit cakes. It roughly halves the defrosting time.
  • Conventional: uses the upper and bottom heating elements, with a temperature of 60°C to 250°C, for cooking any kind of dish on one shelf only.
  • Forced Air: uses the rear heating element and the fan for even heat, with a temperature of 60°C to 240°C. Ideal for baking and cooking delicate food on 3 shelves at the same time, such as cakes that need to rise, cream puffs, biscuits, savoury puffs, swiss rolls and small vegetable gratins.
  • Grill: radiant heat from the powerful upper element, 60°C to 220°C. Recommended for tender cuts of meat, steak, chops, sausages, fish and cheese toasts. Preheat for 3 minutes and slide the grill dish into either of the 2 spaces within the upper pair of support rails.
  • Maxi Grill: direct radiant heat from 2 powerful upper elements, 60°C to 220°C, cooking faster than the normal grill. Preheat for 3 minutes to help seal in the natural juices of the meat.
  • Turbo Grill: top central heating with the fan, 60°C to 220°C. The grill element cycles on and off to hold the set temperature while the fan circulates hot air, and it is recommended for large cuts of meat without needing to turn them over. Place the food on the 2nd or 3rd rack with the deep tray on the lowest shelf.
  • Fan Bake: bottom heating element and fan, 60°C to 230°C, suited to pastries, cakes and non-dry sweets in baking tins, and to cooking that needs heat mainly from the bottom. Place the food on a low level.
  • Light: switches on the oven light.
  • Off: switches the oven off.

Daily use:

  • Select and activate: turn the function knob to the symbol you need (the oven light switches on), then turn the thermostat knob clockwise to the required temperature.
  • Preheating: the thermostat light switches on while the oven preheats and switches off when the set temperature is reached. Place food inside once preheating has finished, as adding it earlier can affect the result.
  • Timer: turn the timer knob fully clockwise to the desired time (10 to 120 minutes). At the end of the set time the oven switches off and the knob returns to OFF. With the timer knob at 0 the oven will not switch on, so set the hand icon or a cooking time.
  • First time use: heat the empty oven at 250°C for about half an hour to remove manufacturing odours, and ventilate the room afterwards.
  • Hob zones: front left 1,800W, and front right, rear left and rear right 1,200W. The residual heat indicator turns on when the surface is over 60°C.

Extra Information

The 60cm electric freestanding format suits kitchens being updated like for like, or homes without a gas connection that still want a full oven and four-zone hob in one appliance. It sits well with households that bake and roast regularly, as the 69L cavity and Forced Air function can cook on up to 3 shelves at once, and the grill, Maxi Grill and Turbo Grill functions cover everything from toast to large cuts of meat. Because the oven switches off automatically when the timer finishes, it is a practical choice for busy families.

On the hob, the front left zone is the largest at 1,800W and suits big pans, while the three 1,200W zones (the two on the right are 140mm) are better matched to small and medium saucepans. The guide recommends flat-bottomed pots slightly larger than the hotplate, with no more than 50mm of overhang, always placed dry on the hotplate. Stored heat can be used for the last few minutes of cooking by simply turning the control off, and aluminium foil should never be left on a hot ceramic zone. Do not use the cooker if the ceramic glass is cracked or broken.

In the oven, use the wire rack for cookware rather than placing dishes, foil or anything else on the cavity floor, which can damage the enamel, and do not line the oven with foil. When grilling or using Turbo Grill, the dripping pan should always sit on level 1. Remember to heat the empty oven at 250°C for about half an hour before first use. The cooker is for household use only and not for professional or outdoor use, and the oven door and some surfaces become very hot in use, so keep children away.
