Product Overview

The Whirlpool WRT9350AUS is a 90cm built-in ceramic cooktop with five cooking zones and front touch slider controls, finished in black ceramic glass. The completely smooth surface wipes clean with a cloth, and two extended zones give extra flexibility: a Triple Zone that expands from 120mm to 175mm or 230mm, and a central Oval Zone that expands from a round zone to a 270 x 165mm oval for long pans and griddles.

The slider control gives nine power levels per zone, and the cooktop adds a timer, Stop & Go function and Child Lock. Safety is covered by a residual heat indicator on every zone, auto shutdown, overheat protection and overflow protection. Rated at 8,500W and supplied with a 110cm power cord (without plug), it fits a 880mm x 490-500mm cut-out and must be connected by a qualified electrician.

Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited.

Programmes / Functions

Power level guide (per the Whirlpool use and care guide):

  • Levels 1-2: delicate warming of small amounts of food, melting chocolate and butter, and foods that burn quickly.
  • Levels 3-4: gentle simmering, slow warming and reheating.
  • Levels 5-6: rapid simmering, cooking rice and pancakes.
  • Levels 7-8: sautéing, cooking pasta, stir-frying and searing.
  • Level 9: bringing soup to the boil and boiling water.

Functions:

  • Touch slider control: press and hold ON/OFF for about 3 seconds to switch on, select a zone, then move a finger horizontally across the slider keypad to set the power from 0 to 9 (default level 5). The controls respond to a light touch of the ball of the finger and beep when a touch registers.
  • Triple Zone and Oval Zone (extended zones): select a zone that has an extended zone, then press the extended zone button to enlarge the heating area. On the oval zone each press cycles Central, Oval, then back to Central. On the triple zone each press cycles Central, Dual, Triple, then back to Central. The display alternates the power setting with a symbol while an extended zone is active.
  • Stop & Go: press the Stop & Go button to put all zones on hold (the displays show "P"), and press it again to resume at the same settings. If left active for more than 10 minutes, the cooktop turns itself off.
  • Child Lock: press the Child Lock button to lock the controls ("Lo" shows on the timer display). Only ON/OFF and Child Lock remain active. Press and hold Child Lock for 3 seconds to unlock.
  • Timer: set up to 99 minutes as a minute minder (does not switch any zone off) or as a zone timer that switches one or more zones off when the time is up. Slide the keypad to set the units digit, press the timer button, then slide to set the tens digit and press the timer button again to confirm. The default is 30 minutes and the buzzer sounds for 30 seconds at the end.
  • Standby auto-off: if no zone is used within 1 minute of switching on, the cooktop turns itself off.
  • Residual heat warning: an "H" stays on the zone display until the surface is cool enough to touch.
  • Auto shutdown: a zone left on switches off after 8 hours at levels 1-3, 4 hours at levels 4-6, or 2 hours at levels 7-9.
  • Overheat protection: the cooktop stops operating automatically if the internal temperature gets too high.
  • Overflow protection: if liquid boils over onto the control panel, or a wet cloth covers it, the cooktop shuts off power and the controls stay disabled (except ON/OFF and Child Lock) until the panel is wiped dry.

Extra Information

With five zones and 8,500W across a 90cm surface, this cooktop is built for entertainers who run several pots, pans and griddles at once, and the use and care guide's tips help keep that efficient. It advises starting cooking on a high setting and reducing it once the food has heated through, reducing the power as soon as food comes to the boil, and using lids and as little liquid or fat as possible to shorten cooking times. Nothing should be stored on the cooking surfaces because of the risk of fire, and cookware with jagged edges or a curved base should be avoided.

For anyone replacing an existing 90cm cooktop, Whirlpool states that all published dimensions are a guide only and that final product dimensions may differ slightly due to manufacturing tolerances, so the 880mm x 490-500mm opening should be cut to the actual product measurements rather than to the stated figures alone.

The cooktop is intended for household and similar use, such as staff kitchens, farm houses and guest accommodation. It should not be used if the glass is cracked, and people with a pacemaker or similar medical device should take care near it while it is on and consult their doctor or the device manufacturer.
