Why You’ll Love It
  • Easy-clean black ceramic glass: a flat, smooth surface that wipes clean in seconds.
  • A knob for every zone: simple, direct heat control with 9 power levels.
  • Four zones, 6,000W: cook several dishes at once, from gentle simmering to rapid boiling.
  • Built-in safety: residual heat indicators, auto shutdown and overheat protection.
Ideal For
  • Anyone ready to finally freshen up a tired kitchen: it drops into the same 560mm x 490-500mm cut-out, so the update you have been dreaming about is a simple swap, not a renovation.
  • Cooks who trust their hands: real knobs you can turn without looking, the way you have always cooked, with no screen to tap in the middle of a busy dinner.
  • Families getting everyone fed together: four zones so the pasta, the sauce, the veggies and the fussy eater's favourite are all ready at the same moment.
  • Anyone who dreads the scrubbing after dinner: a smooth black ceramic surface that wipes clean in seconds, so the night ends with you on the couch, not at the sink.

Product Overview

The Whirlpool WRK6140AUS is a 60cm built-in ceramic cooktop with four cooking zones and a dedicated front knob for each zone, finished in black ceramic glass. The completely smooth surface wipes clean with a cloth, and the zone layout (two 1,800W 200mm zones and two 1,200W 165mm zones) covers everything from gentle simmering to rapid boiling.

Each knob gives nine power levels, and the cooktop is built with everyday safety in mind: a residual heat indicator on every zone, automatic shutdown if a zone is left on, and overheat protection. Rated at 6,000W and supplied with a 110cm power cord (without plug), it fits a standard 560mm x 490-500mm cut-out and must be connected by a qualified electrician.

Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited.

Product Details & Specifications

Product Features
  • Black ceramic glass: a completely smooth, flat cooking surface that is extremely easy to clean with just a wipe.
  • Four cooking zones: two 200mm zones at 1,800W and two 165mm zones at 1,200W (left front 1,800W, left rear 1,200W, right front 1,200W, right rear 1,800W) for a total of 6,000W.
  • Dedicated knob for every zone: front-mounted knobs let you set the heat of each zone directly, with a main ON/OFF button for the whole cooktop.
  • 9 power levels: from delicate warming and melting through to rapid boiling and searing.
  • Accidental-heating protection: the first turn of a knob does not change the power level, helping prevent a zone being switched on unintentionally.
  • Residual heat indicator: an "H" shows on each zone that is still hot, and the leftover heat can be used to finish cooking.
  • Auto shutdown: switches a zone off automatically after 8, 4 or 2 hours depending on the power level, if it is forgotten.
  • Overheat protection: a temperature sensor monitors the inside of the cooktop and stops operation if it gets too hot.
  • Easy-fit installation kit: supplied with fixing clips, screws and a foam gasket for a secure fit into the worktop.
Programmes / Functions

Power level guide (per the Whirlpool use and care guide):

  • Levels 1-2: delicate warming of small amounts of food, melting chocolate and butter, and foods that burn quickly.
  • Levels 3-4: gentle simmering, slow warming and reheating.
  • Levels 5-6: rapid simmering, cooking rice and pancakes.
  • Levels 7-8: sautéing, cooking pasta, stir-frying and searing.
  • Level 9: bringing soup to the boil and boiling water.

Operation and safety functions:

  • Knob control: press and hold the ON/OFF button for about 3 seconds to switch the cooktop on, then turn the knob for the zone you want. The first turn of each knob does not change the power level; turn it a second time to adjust from 0 to 9. The default setting is level 5.
  • Standby auto-off: if no zone is used within 1 minute of switching on, the cooktop turns itself off.
  • Residual heat warning: an "H" stays on the zone display until the surface is cool enough to touch.
  • Auto shutdown: a zone left on switches off after 8 hours at levels 1-3, 4 hours at levels 4-6, or 2 hours at levels 7-9.
  • Overheat protection: the cooktop stops operating automatically if the internal temperature gets too high.

Extra Information

The knob layout suits cooks who prefer to turn a dial and feel the setting rather than tap a screen, and it is an easy swap for anyone replacing an older 60cm electric or ceramic cooktop with the same 560mm x 490-500mm cut-out. The use and care guide recommends simmering at around 85°C, where bubbles only occasionally rise to the surface, for soups and stews and for egg-based or flour-thickened sauces, which should be cooked below boiling point. Some dishes, including rice cooked by the absorption method, may need a setting higher than the lowest one to cook properly in the recommended time.

When several dishes are on at once, as in a busy family kitchen, reducing the power as soon as food comes to the boil and using a lid with as little liquid as possible shortens cooking times. It is normal for the heating element of a zone to switch on and off alternately at lower power levels, as this is how the cooktop controls its temperature. If power is cut during cooking, all settings are cancelled. The cooktop is for household and similar use only and should not be used if the glass is cracked.
