Product Overview

The Whirlpool WHP80250 is a 9kg freestanding heat pump clothes dryer in White from Whirlpool's FreshCare+ range. It carries an 8 Star energy rating, and its 120-litre usable stainless steel drum takes full family loads of cotton, bed linen and bulky items such as a single duvet.

Drying is managed by 6th SENSE technology, which recognises the amount of laundry and sets the drying time to suit, so each cycle uses only the time and energy the load needs. FreshCare+ continues working after the programme ends, controlling temperature and drum rotation for up to 6 hours to stop odours and creases developing in laundry that cannot be unloaded straight away. The heat pump runs from a hermetically sealed unit, and moisture removed from the clothes collects in a removable water tank or drains directly through the hose at the rear of the dryer.

A single programme knob, electronic controls and an LCD digital display show the selected programme, cycle progress and a countdown to completion. Dedicated option buttons cover dryness level, timed drying, start delay, high heat, anti tangle, gentle drying and FreshCare+, and the wool cycle holds Woolmark Blue certification for garments labelled hand wash.

Product Details & Specifications

Product Features
  • 6th SENSE Technology: recognises the amount of laundry in the drum and sets the right drying time accordingly. Matching the cycle to the load optimises energy use and avoids running longer than needed.
  • FreshCare+: if garments are left in the drum after the cycle, the dryer controls temperature and drum rotation for up to 6 hours to prevent bacterial build-up, odours and creasing. Laundry can be unloaded when it suits rather than the moment the cycle ends.
  • Woolmark Blue certification: the wool cycle is approved by The Woolmark Company for drying wool garments labelled hand wash, provided they are dried according to Whirlpool's instructions. Fine knitwear stays soft and smooth without being left to dry flat.
  • Steam Refresh: a dedicated 20-minute cycle sends a flow of fresh air through the fibres to remove unpleasant smells, relax fibres and smooth creases. Garments that are not dirty can be freshened and worn again without an unnecessary wash.
  • 8 Star heat pump efficiency: the heat pump system achieves an 8 Star energy rating with a registered energy consumption of 152 kWh per year, keeping running costs low for frequent drying.
  • Four dryness levels: Iron dry, Hanger dry, Cupboard dry and Extra dry set the residual moisture left in the garments, from slightly damp for easier ironing through to ready to wear.
  • Easy-access filtration: a door filter and a bottom filter behind the lower door collect lint during drying, and the bottom filter lifts out by its handle for rinsing. A display indicator signals when the filters need cleaning.
  • Anti tangle: modifies the drum movement to give a tumbling action that reduces tangling and knotting of clothes, with best results on smaller loads.
  • Timed drying and start delay: set a fixed drying time for individual items, or delay the start so the cycle finishes at a more convenient time.
  • Key lock: a long press makes every control except the On/Off button inaccessible, preventing settings from being changed mid-cycle by curious children.
  • Flexible water drainage: condensed water collects in a removable water tank that is emptied after each cycle, or the rear drain hose can be connected to the household drain so the tank never needs emptying.
  • Automatic switch-off: if the dryer is not switched off manually, it turns itself off about a quarter of an hour after the cycle ends to save energy.

Extra Information

Energy and time figures for the WHP80250 are measured on the Eco Cotton programme at the Extra Dry level under AS/NZS 2442.2. A full 9kg load uses 2.07 kWh over 211 minutes and a half load of 4.5kg uses 1.20 kWh over 131 minutes, while a 4kg Synthetics load uses 0.73 kWh over 95 minutes. The heat pump circuit is a hermetically sealed unit containing 0.18kg of R134a refrigerant.

Actual cycle times depend on load size, fabric type, the spin speed used in the washing machine and any options selected, and the remaining time shown on the display is checked and adjusted continuously throughout the cycle. Drying takes longer when the room temperature falls outside the 14°C to 30°C range, and loads spun at a higher speed in the washer dry faster.

The WHP80250 is registered with the Australian Government Energy Rating register under registration number ACD0781. Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited, 40-50 Mark Anthony Drive, Dandenong South VIC 3175.
