Product Overview

The Whirlpool IWHH9050CC is a 90cm built-in induction cooktop with five cooking zones, two Flexicook areas and front slider touch controls, finished in black ceramic glass. Induction technology heats the pan rather than the cooktop surface, which reduces wasted energy and speeds up cooking, and a Booster function on every zone significantly reduces boiling times. The completely smooth surface wipes clean with a cloth.

Each Flexicook area can work as two independent zones or combine into a single large zone for oval and rectangular cookware, and the slider control gives nine power levels per zone. The cooktop adds a timer, Stop & Go function and Child Lock, with pan detection, residual heat indicators, auto shutdown, overheat protection and overflow protection for safety. Rated at 10,200W and supplied with a 110cm power cord (without plug), it fits an 880mm x 500mm cut-out and must be connected by a qualified electrician.

Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited.

Product Details & Specifications

Product Features
  • Induction technology: heats the pan, not the cooktop, reducing energy dispersion for faster and more energy-efficient cooking.
  • Flexicook: two flexible cooking areas accommodate pots and pans of any size. Each can be used as two independent zones or combined into a single 190 x 400mm zone at 3,000W (Booster 3,600W).
  • Booster: every cooking zone is equipped with a Booster function that significantly reduces boiling times.
  • Five cooking zones: a 280mm central zone at 2,300W (Booster 3,000W) and four 190 x 190mm zones: left front 2,000W (Booster 2,600W), left rear 1,500W (Booster 2,000W), right front 1,500W (Booster 2,000W) and right rear 2,000W (Booster 2,600W).
  • Black ceramic glass: a completely smooth, flat cooking surface that is extremely easy to clean with just a wipe.
  • Slider touch control: power is adjusted with a slider across 9 power levels, and the light around the buttons shows which zones are switched on.
  • Stop & Go: suspends cooking when you are interrupted and restarts at the same settings with one touch.
  • Child Lock: locks the controls to prevent toddlers and children accidentally using the cooktop.
  • Timer: use as a minute minder or to switch a zone off automatically, set up to 99 minutes.
  • Pan detection: no heating takes place unless a suitable pan is on the cooking zone.
  • Residual heat indicator: an "H" shows on each zone that is still hot.
  • Auto shutdown: switches a zone off automatically after 8, 4 or 2 hours depending on the power level, if it is forgotten.
  • Overheat and overflow protection: the cooktop stops operating if it gets too hot, and shuts off if liquid spills over the control panel.
  • Easy-fit installation kit: supplied with fixing clips, screws and a foam gasket for a secure fit into the worktop.
Programmes / Functions

Power level guide (per the Whirlpool use and care guide):

  • Levels 1-2: delicate warming of small amounts of food, melting chocolate and butter, and foods that burn quickly.
  • Levels 3-4: gentle simmering, slow warming and reheating.
  • Levels 5-6: rapid simmering, cooking rice and pancakes.
  • Levels 7-8: sautéing, cooking pasta, stir-frying and searing.
  • Level 9: bringing soup to the boil and boiling water.

Functions:

  • Slider touch control: press and hold ON/OFF for about 3 seconds to switch on, select a zone, then move a finger horizontally across the scroll keypad to set the power from 0 to 9 (default level 5). The controls respond to a light touch of the ball of the finger and beep when a touch registers.
  • Flexicook: select a Flexicook zone and press the Flexicook button (its indicator lights up), then slide the keypad for the power level. Each Flexicook area is made of two independent inductors. When combined into one zone, moving a pan from one end to the other keeps the power level of the zone where it started, and the part not covered by cookware switches off automatically. Press the Flexicook button again to return to two independent zones.
  • Booster: select a zone and touch the Booster button to boost it to its maximum power rating for 5 minutes. The display shows "b", and the zone returns to its original setting when the boost finishes. Touch Booster again, or adjust the power level, to cancel.
  • Stop & Go: press the Stop & Go button to put all zones on hold (the displays show "P"), and press it again to resume at the same settings. If left active for more than 10 minutes, the cooktop turns itself off.
  • Child Lock: press the Child Lock button to lock the controls ("Lo" shows on the timer display). Only ON/OFF and Child Lock remain active. Press and hold Child Lock for 3 seconds to unlock.
  • Timer: set up to 99 minutes as a minute minder (does not switch any zone off) or as a zone timer that switches one or more zones off when the time is up. Slide the keypad to set the units digit, press the timer button, then slide to set the tens digit and press the timer button again to confirm. The default is 30 minutes and the buzzer sounds for 30 seconds at the end.
  • Pan detection: if the display flashes alternately with the heat setting, no suitable pan is on the zone. The display turns off after 2 minutes, and a zone with an unsuitable or very small item on it switches off after 1 minute.
  • Standby auto-off: if no zone is used within 1 minute of switching on, the cooktop turns itself off.
  • Residual heat warning: an "H" stays on the zone display until the surface is cool enough to touch.
  • Auto shutdown: a zone left on switches off after 8 hours at levels 1-3, 4 hours at levels 4-6, or 2 hours at levels 7-9.
  • Overheat protection: the cooktop stops operating automatically if the internal temperature gets too high.
  • Overflow protection: if liquid boils over onto the control panel, or a wet cloth covers it, the cooktop shuts off power and the controls stay disabled (except ON/OFF and Child Lock) until the panel is wiped dry.
  • Cooling fan: the fan keeps running for about 1 minute after the cooktop is turned off.

Extra Information

Flexicook is the standout for cooks who use oval roasters, rectangular pans or griddles. Each of the two Flexicook areas is made of two independent inductors that can run as separate zones or combine into one 190 x 400mm zone, and when combined, moving a pan from one end to the other keeps the power level it started with while the uncovered section switches off automatically. The use and care guide advises centring large, oval, rectangular or elongated pans so they cover both cross-sections of the zone.

The guide gives suitable base diameters for each zone: 140 to 190mm on the 190mm zones, 230 to 280mm on the 280mm central zone, and 190 x 400 to 200 x 400mm on the Flexicook zones. Pans smaller than 140mm may not be detected, and cookware must be induction compatible, either marked with the induction symbol or attracting a magnet. When two zones in the same vertical direction are in use, boosting one lowers the other to level 2 if it was set higher.

For families, it is worth knowing that if the cooktop is switched off without unlocking Child Lock, the lock stays active the next time it is turned on and must be released before cooking. Frying should always be supervised, as oil and fat heat up quickly, particularly with Booster. The cooktop is for household and similar use, not professional or outdoor use, and should not be used if the glass is cracked. If power is cut during cooking all settings are cancelled, and people with a pacemaker or similar medical device should consult their doctor or the device manufacturer.
