• Qualified installer: the rangehood must be installed and connected to the power supply by a qualified technician. It is heavy, so two people are required for installation.
• Installation height: the filters must be no closer than 1200mm and no further than 1600mm from the cooking surface, measured from the top of the grills to the underside of the hood. Installing above the maximum height may compromise the warranty.
• Wall bracket: use the bracket template to mark the holes, pre-drill with an 8mm bit, fit the plastic dowels and fix the bracket level with a spirit level. Two people then lift the hood and drop the horizontal support bar onto the fixed bracket.
• Flue covers: fit the upper flue cover into the lower flue cover, telescope it to the ceiling and fix the top bracket. The flue cover must not be fixed permanently, so it can be removed for servicing.
• Ducting: prepare a 210mm exhaust hole and use 200mm constant diameter semi-rigid or solid ducting of no more than 7 metres. Flexible ducting is not permitted under any circumstances. Each elbow reduces duct efficiency by about 1 metre, and ducting must not be screwed to the hood because it can stop the non-return valves moving.
• Ducting kits and warranty: Sirius EasyKits and ducting components are recommended. The Smart warranty covers only Smart products, and non-Smart accessories including ducting may attract charges if they are the cause of a fault.
• Power: a 240 volt supply with an earth connection on a 10 amp circuit. If the hood has a plug, it must stay easily reachable, otherwise a disconnection device is required in the fixed wiring.
• Ventilation: provide adequate ventilation when the hood is used with gas or other fuel appliances, and have flued gas appliances tested by a competent person after installation.
• Covered or enclosed areas: an alfresco area is outdoors when it has natural ventilation, for example no more than 3 walls with the open side at least 25% of the perimeter. Enclosed areas that do not meet this require a rangehood with at least 2000m³/h airflow.
• Cabinetry and cut-outs: do not cut cabinetry until you have the rangehood on site, and measure the physical product first.
• User manual: read the user manual thoroughly before installing or using the rangehood.

You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

The SMARH120 is built for the conditions that wear outdoor appliances out fastest. The 316 marine grade stainless steel is the grade chosen for coastal homes, so if you live within five kilometres of the sea, the hood is designed to cope with the salt in the air. The Black model uses the same marine grade steel, so choosing it is a matter of style rather than a trade-off in durability.

Performance depends on the install as much as the hood. Twin motors reach their full extraction when the ducting is 200mm throughout, as short as possible with few bends, and the hood sits between 1200mm and 1600mm above the cooking surface. Because the motors are onboard, there is no separate external motor to position, and the hood only needs a 10 amp power supply.

If your alfresco area is partly enclosed, check the wall and opening rules in the manual, because enclosed areas need at least 2000m³/h extraction, which this model delivers. For a gas BBQ, ask your installer about the optional interlock system that stops the BBQ being lit until the rangehood is moving enough air.
