Product Overview

The Barazza Thalas 80cm Built-In Electric Teppanyaki Hob brings Italian-made teppanyaki cooking to the outdoor kitchen. A 6mm AISI 304 stainless steel plate sits in an AISI 316 stainless steel body, giving a flat, high-heat surface that suits searing meat, flash-frying vegetables and cooking seafood in front of your guests.

The plate is split into two cooking zones with a double thermostat, so the whole plate or just the rear zone can be heated, and the electronic temperature control covers a wide range of cooking temperatures. A removable tray collects cooking liquid for easy clean-up, and a waterproof cover protects the hob when it is not in use.

It is supplied with a Schuko 15A plug and lead, so it connects to a suitable outdoor power point without hard wiring, and installs into a benchtop cut-out of 76 x 49cm.

Product Details & Specifications

Product Features
  • 80cm teppanyaki plate: a 6mm thick AISI 304 stainless steel single hotplate with one continuous cooking surface, big enough to cook a full meal for a crowd.
  • Marine grade AISI 316 body: extra thick AISI 316 stainless steel, made to stand up to the weather and salty sea air in outdoor and coastal kitchens.
  • Two cooking zones: heat the whole plate, or just the rear zone. With the rear zone only, the front of the plate stays warm (about 100°C when the rear is at 200°C) for holding cooked food.
  • Double thermostat: separate thermostat control suited to the large 80cm plate.
  • Electronic temperature control: adjustable from 50°C to 270°C, from gentle warming through to high-heat searing.
  • Indicator lights: a main power light and a thermostat light that switches off once the set temperature is reached.
  • Maximum 2kW: electric heating, supplied with a 200cm power cable and plug.
  • Removable cooking liquid tray: catches juices and oil for simple emptying and cleaning.
  • Waterproof cover included: protects the hob between uses.
  • Built-in installation: 76 x 49cm cut-out, with fixing clips and sponge seal supplied.
  • Made in Italy: Barazza has been making design-led kitchen appliances in Italy since 1956.
Programmes / Functions
  • Cooking area selection: a selection knob chooses between the whole plate or the rear zone only.
  • Temperature knob: sets the plate temperature with electronic control from 50°C to 270°C. The thermostat light comes on while heating and switches off when the set temperature is reached.
  • Changing temperature mid-cook: you can raise or lower the temperature while cooking. Allow a few minutes for the plate to heat or cool to the new setting.
  • Rear zone with warming area: when only the rear zone is on, the front of the plate still heats (about 100°C when the rear is at 200°C), so it can hold cooked food or pans warm. It is still hot, so do not touch it with bare hands.
  • Temperature guide: fish 170-180°C, vegetables and fruit 200°C, pork, beef and veal 180-200°C, lamb and poultry 150-180°C. If in doubt, choose the lower temperature.
  • Fats and oils guide: butter at 150-180°C for fish and liver; olive oil at 150-200°C for fish and meat such as fillet, game and steak; peanut or maize oil at 200-250°C for meat in general; lard or coconut oil at 200-250°C for roasts and oriental dishes.
  • Residual heat cooking: the plate holds its heat after switching off, so you can turn it off before the end of cooking and finish with the remaining heat, or use it to keep cooked food hot.
  • Approximate cooling times: about 45 minutes in the 0 to 150°C range, about 70 minutes from 150 to 200°C and about 90 minutes above 200°C.
  • First use: clean the hob, then heat the empty plate for a few minutes. Some smoke or odour is normal at first from the factory grease burning off.

Installation & Requirements
  • Qualified installation: installation must be carried out by qualified personnel and comply with the electrical regulations in force. Switch off the main supply and unplug the hob during installation or service work.
  • Cut-out: 76 x 49cm. The hob flange is 78 x 52cm and the hob is 6.2cm deep.
  • Clearances: minimum 3.5cm at the sides, 4.5cm at the rear and 56cm above the hob.
  • Cabinet: must be in perfect, stable condition (DIN 68930) and made of material that resists 120°C.
  • Multiple Thalas appliances: allow at least 2cm between appliances.
  • Fitting: lay the sponge seal strip on the benchtop (not under the edge of the hob), set the hob over the cut-out and secure it with the supplied screws and brackets.
  • Electrical: 220-240V, 50/60Hz. Check the voltage and frequency match the data plate. The 200cm cable is fitted with a plug (listed as Schuko 15A), so a suitable outdoor power point is needed. Have a licensed electrician confirm the outlet suits the plug.
  • Power point position: the socket must stay accessible once the hob is installed.
  • Power cable: do not crush or coil it, let it touch liquids, sharp or hot objects, use extension leads or let it get 50°C above room temperature. Replace only with the same cable type, via a service centre.
  • Surrounding area: the area around the hob can get very hot. Keep power outlets, other appliances, cables, hoses and heat-sensitive or flammable items clear.
  • Outdoor use: designed for outdoor kitchens. Use the cover for protection and store the hob sheltered from the weather if it is not used often.

Extra Information

Teppanyaki is cooking as theatre: a large, flat, hot plate that keeps the cook with the guests instead of behind a lid. Breakfast eggs and bacon, prawns, steak and vegetables can all be cooked at once, using only a small amount of butter, oil or other fat.

The Thalas 80cm is the largest teppanyaki in Barazza's Thalas Outdoor collection. It adds a double thermostat and 2kW of power to the features of the 37cm model, and it sits alongside the Thalas 37cm and 70cm barbecues in the same range. The AISI 316 body is chosen for coastal exposure, and the single 6mm plate holds its heat well. With two zones you can keep one side hot for searing and use the rest of the plate to rest or hold food.

Cooking tips from Barazza: spread food evenly so it sits flat on the plate, cook pieces already cut into small portions, and turn food once it releases easily from the plate. Do not heat sealed tins or containers, do not cover the hob with foil and supervise it whenever it is on, as the hob and its accessible parts get very hot. Children under 8 should be kept away unless supervised.

Optional accessory: the 1C306 stainless steel cover/tray suits both the Thalas barbecue and teppanyaki models.

If you find damage on delivery, do not install the hob. Contact your retailer within 8 days. If a fault appears, stop using the hob, unplug it and contact a service centre. Use original spare parts only.
