Product Overview

The Whirlpool WDFS3R4O is a 60cm freestanding dishwasher with a 14 place setting capacity, available in Black (WDFS3R4OBSAU), White (WDFS3R4OWEAU) or Stainless Steel (WDFS3R4OIXAU). It has a LED display with simple button controls, six washing programmes that run from a 47 minute Rapid cycle to a 182 minute Intensive cycle, and a 3rd rack for cutlery that frees up room in the racks below for larger cookware.

Natural Dry automatically opens the door as the drying phase finishes to help deliver better drying results, and Zone Wash lets you run just the upper or lower rack when you do not have a full load, saving time and energy. A delay start of up to 24 hours, Aquastop leak protection, overflow detection and a three-part filter assembly round out the everyday essentials.

The dishwasher carries a 5 Star WELS water rating at 11.5 litres per wash and a 3.5 Star energy rating at 270 kWh per year, with a quiet 49dB noise level for open-plan homes. Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited.

Product Details & Specifications

Product Features
  • Natural Dry: the factory default setting. The door opens automatically during or after the drying phase so steam can escape and dishes dry better. The Natural Dry button on the panel turns it on or off, and a panel indicator shows when it is active.
  • Zone Wash: press the Function button to wash only the upper rack or only the lower rack. The matching Upper Zone or Lower Zone indicator lights up and only that spray arm operates, which is ideal when you do not have a full load.
  • 3rd Rack and cutlery rack: cutlery is arranged so water flows freely around it, and long items such as serving cutlery and salad servers lie flat in the rack, clear of the spray arms. This frees up space below for larger cookware.
  • Rapid Wash: cleans lightly soiled dishes in 47 minutes, with a 65°C main wash and 7.5 litres of water per cycle. It does not include a drying phase.
  • Six programmes: Intensive, Light, Eco, Mixed (Daily), Rapid and Prewash, from an 18 minute rinse to a 182 minute heavy-duty wash.
  • Flexible racks: the upper rack height can be adjusted by moving its wheels along the rails in the tub to make room for large items in either rack. Both racks have tip-up supports that fold into a vertical position for bowls, pots and pans, and cup holders keep cups and glasses secure.
  • Delay start: delay the start of a programme by up to 24 hours. The display shows the set delay time and then the remaining programme time.
  • Three-part filter assembly: a stainless steel plate filter, cup filter and cylindrical filter trap food residue so it is not recirculated onto your dishes.
  • Rinse aid dispenser: holds around 140ml with four dosage settings and a refill indicator on the panel, helping to prevent water spots and streaks and make drying easier.
  • Aquastop and overflow protection: Aquastop safety protection is built in, and if an overflow is detected the circulation pump shuts off and the drain pump turns on.
  • Child Lock: press and hold the Program button for 3 seconds to lock the controls, with a panel indicator showing when it is on.
  • Clear LED display: shows remaining programme time, delay time and error codes, with indicators for a closed water tap, rinse aid refill, Zone Wash, Natural Dry and Child Lock.
  • Detergent flexibility: works with conventional and concentrated dishwasher detergents, with the Eco programme designed for concentrated detergents. Tablets can be used on every programme except Prewash and Rapid.
  • Quiet operation: 49dB noise level.
  • 5 Star WELS water rating and 3.5 Star energy rating: 11.5 litres per wash and 270 kWh per year. The Eco programme meets AS/NZS 2007.1.

Although it runs longer than the other programmes, it uses less energy and is less harmful to the environment.

  • Prewash: refreshes a load that is planned to be washed later. Rinse only, with no detergent. 18 minutes, 0.330 kWh and 7.5 litres per cycle.
  • Detergent dosing: the table lists 5g for the prewash and 27.5g for the main wash on Intensive, Light, Eco and Mixed, and 20g for the main wash on Rapid. In general, only one tablespoon of detergent is needed for a normal load.

Installation & Requirements
  • Installation type: freestanding, or recessed under a single worktop (refer to the separate installation guideline). The installation of the pipes and electrical equipment should be done by professionals.
  • Unpacking: unpack the appliance, remove all packaging and check it has not been damaged in transport. Take all packaging and the documentation bag out of the dishwasher before use.
  • Positioning: place the dishwasher so its sides or back panels are in contact with the adjacent cabinets or the wall, on a level and sturdy floor. The back should rest against the wall behind it, and the water supply and drain hoses can be positioned to the right or left to suit installation.
  • Levelling: adjust the height of the feet (by screwing them) until the dishwasher is level. The angle of inclination must not exceed 2 degrees, and the maximum adjustment height of the feet is 2cm.
  • Water inlet: connect cold water to a threaded 3/4 inch connector and tighten firmly to avoid leakage. Use the new hose sets supplied and do not reuse old hose sets. If the hoses have not been used for a period of time, run water for a while to make sure it is clear before connecting.
  • Water drain: insert the drain hose into a drain pipe with a minimum diameter of 4cm, or run it into the sink, making sure it is not bent. The top of the hose should sit between 40cm and 100cm above the floor, the free end must not be immersed in water, and the maximum drain hose length is 4m. Secure the drain hose so it does not come off during operation.
  • Avoiding siphoning: the water connection must be at a height between 40cm (minimum) and 100cm (maximum) from the floor, with the drain hose fixed by a hose clip. If the sink is higher than 100cm from the floor, excess water in the hoses cannot drain directly and must be drained into a suitable container held lower than the sink.
  • Water supply: water pressure of 0.04 - 1.0 MPa. A hot water connection of up to 60°C is permitted.
  • Electrical: 220-240V~ 50-60Hz, 10 amp Australian plug. The socket must be earthed, comply with local regulations, withstand the maximum power on the rating plate on the side of the door, and be compatible with the plug. Do not use extension cables or multiple sockets, keep the socket easily accessible, and do not bend or compress the cable. A damaged power cord must be replaced by a qualified technician.
  • Before first use: check the dishwasher is levelled and fixed, the inlet valve is open, there is no leakage at the water connections, the wires are tightly connected, the power is switched on and the inlet and drain hoses are not knotted. Fill the rinse aid dispenser before running the first programme.
  • Moving the appliance: keep it in an upright position; if it must be laid down, lay it carefully on its back with the front facing up.

Extra Information

Use only detergents designed for dishwashers. Concentrated, low-alkaline detergents with natural enzymes work best with the Eco programme, which is designed to get the most from them. Tablets are not recommended for the Rapid programme, as residue can be left on dishes when the programme is short and the tablet does not fully dissolve. Tablets can be used on every programme except Prewash and Rapid. Fill the dispenser before each programme, load detergent into the main wash compartment, and if you want to add detergent for the prewash phase place about 5g directly inside the tub. Always add detergent just before starting each programme, as damp detergent may not dissolve properly. Dishwasher detergents are strongly alkaline and dangerous if swallowed, so keep them away from skin, eyes and children.

For the rinse aid, use only liquid rinse aid designed for dishwashers, and never fill the dispenser with any other substance. The dosage dial has four settings and the default is 4; if you see water droplets or lime spots after washing, set a higher number, and if you see bluish or sticky whitish streaks, set a lower number. Load the lower rack first with large items such as pots, pans, lids and serving dishes, placing deep pots upside down or at an angle so water can drain, and arrange cups, glasses and small bowls in the upper rack. Do not overload the dishwasher: it is designed for 14 place settings, and overloading reduces washing performance and energy efficiency. Wooden crockery and cutlery, delicate hand-painted or antique crockery, parts in synthetic material that cannot withstand high temperatures, and copper and tin crockery are not suitable for washing in a dishwasher.

At the end of the wash, wait a few minutes before unloading so dishes are not hot and more susceptible to breakage, and unload the lower rack first so water does not drip from the upper rack onto the dishes below. It is normal for the dishes and the inside of the dishwasher to be damp after a programme, and for some steam to come through the vent during drying. If the dishwasher has not been used for a while, run a quick programme to let it fill and drain for maintenance. The manual also covers common issues such as excessive foam, cloudy glasses, limescale and unusual noise. Actual programme duration and consumption vary with load, soil level and the programme selected. Whirlpool appliances are distributed in Australia by Arisit Pty Limited, based in Dandenong South, Victoria.
